Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester
Our Manchester centre was highly honoured on the 19th November to recieve a visit from Mr Warren Smith - Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester.
Mr Smith had a discussion with Gareth Binding, Noreen Khan, Bernard Dickinson and Kath Robinson (Ex Deputy Leader Manchester City Council) before meeting and talking with students. He ended his visit with tea and cake and further talks before leaving the centre.
In a letter received regarding the visit, Mr Smith recognised the commitment of the staff of COOL UK and the challenges they face. He also recognised the unanimous respect that our students felt they had from the staff.
He quoted, "Somewhere on life's journey they have lost their free spirit and it is refreshing to see a group of people at COOL UK helping to give it back to them"

COOL UK is a forward thinking organisation with the aim of enabling young people to move from the margins of society into the mainstream. We offer programmes that are meaningful and tailored to individual needs - supporting and maintaining opportunities for our students to create a positive future for themselves through vocational work and accreditation.
The basis of the partnership lies in our shared belief that what unites young people, even from opposite ends of the social and economic scale, is greater than that which divides them. By bringing young people together in this way we believe we can make a real contribution to creating a more cohesive, understanding and tolerant society.

Getting our partnership underway, two COOL students travelled to Wellington in July for an overnight stay and to take part in the Wellington Arts Festival. This occasion was a great success and was followed up by a visit by Dr David James to COOL UK, Burnley.
Discussions are continuing about future progress and events.
